vThere is a big difference between starting a fresh character and using Rebirth on an established one. With a new character, you know from the beginning that your old equipment remains untouched. With Rebirth, the character itself is being reset, so the items sitting on that character need to be handled first. If you have spent weeks collecting D4 items, a few minutes of preparation can prevent an unnecessary loss.

The Rebirth system moves the selected character into the Seasonal Realm and returns it to Level 1. It preserves things such as the character's name, class, appearance, played-time tracking, and cosmetic unlocks, but it does not preserve normal character progression. Most importantly, D4 items left equipped or inside the character's personal inventory when you confirm the process can be permanently deleted.

Think of Rebirth as a Full Cleanup

Before doing anything else, remove every equipped item.

Check every equipment slot individually. Weapons, armor, jewelry, talismans, and other equipped pieces should all be moved into your Eternal Stash if you want to keep them.

This may seem obvious, but players often focus on their main weapon or favorite unique and forget about smaller pieces of equipment. A ring or amulet with an unusually good roll can be just as annoying to lose as a major weapon.

Once the equipment screen is completely empty, move to the character's inventory.

Search Through Every Bag

Inventory management is where most mistakes are likely to happen.

Open every inventory tab and move useful items into the Eternal Stash. Check legendary equipment and uniques, but also look carefully at materials and consumables.

Boss-summoning materials are particularly important because collecting them can require a fair amount of farming. Runes, keys, elixirs, gems, and similar items should receive the same treatment.

I recommend sorting the inventory before transferring anything. Keep valuable equipment together, separate consumables mentally, and then do one final scan after everything has been moved. The extra minute is worthwhile.

Create Storage Before You Need It

Your Eternal Stash should have enough room before you activate Rebirth.

If the stash is already crowded, use the opportunity to clean it. Old leveling gear, duplicate items, and equipment with poor rolls are obvious candidates for removal.

Salvaging unwanted gear can be particularly useful because it turns clutter into crafting materials. If you already have more materials than you need, selling some items for gold is also reasonable. The important thing is not to let an overcrowded stash force you into making rushed decisions.

Keep the items that have a clear purpose and remove the rest.

Don't Confuse Eternal Wealth With Seasonal Wealth

One of the most important things to understand is that your Eternal resources do not simply follow the character into the Seasonal Realm.

Your Eternal gold and crafting materials remain on the Eternal side of your account. The reborn character starts its seasonal progression separately. This means that an enormous Eternal stockpile is not a reason to spend everything before pressing Rebirth.

In fact, keeping those resources intact gives you more options later. You may return to an Eternal character, find a use for old materials, or simply decide that the resources are more valuable after future updates.

Wait Before Making Expensive Decisions

Major seasonal updates can completely change how players evaluate gear.

A build that looks powerful before a patch can lose popularity after balance adjustments. New mechanics can also create combinations that were not practical before. Season 15's introduction of Soul Splinters is a good example of why players should leave themselves room to experiment.

For that reason, I would avoid dumping huge amounts of gold into masterworking or stat rerolls right before the new season unless there is a specific reason to do so. Saving some resources is often more useful than trying to finish an old build at the last possible moment.

Prepare Your Account, Not Just Your Character

Murmuring Obol capacity is tied to broader account progression, including Renown. Checking your progression before the seasonal transition can therefore be worthwhile.

At the same time, remember that an existing Eternal currency balance should not be viewed as a direct starting fund for the Seasonal Realm. Seasonal progression operates independently, so the goal is to prepare your account efficiently rather than trying to force every resource through the reset.

This mindset also makes the transition less stressful. You know what is staying behind, what is being reset, and what needs to be moved manually.

Don't Forget the End of the Season

Rebirth preparation is only one part of seasonal inventory management.

When a season ends, Blizzard places seasonal stash contents into a Withdrawal-Only stash on the Eternal Realm. You need to manually remove anything you want to retain.

It is easy to overlook this temporary storage while preparing for another season, particularly if you have several characters. Checking it at the end of each season is a simple habit that can protect items you still want.

Make the Reset Deliberate

The safest Rebirth routine is straightforward: empty the equipment slots, clear the personal inventory, protect your valuable consumables, make room in the Eternal Stash, and avoid wasting Eternal resources on last-minute upgrades. Once those steps are complete, you can start the new seasonal journey without constantly wondering whether something important was left behind.
